aardvarck returns with his third full length album for eat concrete records. >anti concept< showcases a taste for deep ambient and minimalstic soundscapes, dub, detroit techno and bass heavy beats, mixed into a perfect flow. as the title suggests >anti concept< leaves aside musical genres and focuses on atmosphere rather than style. aardvarck carefully and patiently builds his own world of sound, adding layers and complexity with each track. these tracks bring mostly new material but also contain some of his earlier works on previous eat concrete and bloom releases, highlighting some personal favourites of his impressive output. enjoy!

with his debut release on co-owned smallville label stefan marx presents an exclusive poster collection coated inside a gatefold 12inch cover sleeve. giving the smallville shop and label a visual face since the very beginning stefan marx created hundreds of posters and partyflyers, painted the shopwindows regularly and set up every single record cover. now its the time for himself to release an extraordinary smallville issue in 12inch format. three posters (each has the size of 90 cm x 60 cm) including a first appearance of his band project the dead sea (aka stefan marx, rvds, lawrence and birte löschenkohl). smallville 25 is a collaboration with nieves, the zürich based publishing house of stefan marx and some all-time favorite contributors such as kim gordon, mike mills, mark gonzales and wesley willis. stefan is working with nieves since 2004, publishing books and zines on regular basis. the smallville release is dedicated to ariel pinks haunted graffiti, probably the best band in the world. for alec koone, the 20 year old, pennsylvania resident, who was 19 and based in new york at the time of his first release, >wander / wonder< is a coming of age album that sees him expand upon the unique sound that attracted him so much attention to begin with. in koone s own words: it s an open ended album, and i think individuals should make their own meaning of it so that it is something actually real to them. it s not classical music, but in the tradition of a classical work like a bach cello suite, i see it as more of a whole musical piece with themes/motifs/ideas reoccurring throughout, connecting the tracks together as opposed to simply being a collection of songs that sit next to each other in isolation. it s also an album that should be listened to loudly. wander / wonder is a mysterious and genuinely haunting record that seems to exist in a world all of it s own making, balanced between the ecstatic wonder referenced in the title and something altogether more indefinable and uncertain of itself, like shards of light flickering through a blanket of fog, and even though wander / wonder is undeniably an electronic album, it feels strangely organic, rooted in nature, synthetic textures and distorted voices harmonizing with an ever present oceanic shimmer. wander / wonder was written and produced by alec koone in new york and pennsylvania. mixed by alec koone and sam haar (member of blondes) in new york city.

the highly anticipated squeaky lobster ep has been worth every second of the wait. in terms of sample / synth selection, song structure and sound quality, no expense has been spared. hi-fi synthetic drums intertwine with lo-fi sampled kicks & snares whilst heavy stretched out synth bass lines are topped with bollywood-esque string samples, 80s guitar bridges & plenty of other orchestral mayhem. the lush, thick melodic layers mount up into a frequently spine-tingling whole whilst the rhythm section, although outside the box, does by no means neglect the headnod factor. the incredible feat here is that although no 8 bars are quite the same as the next, a sense of unity is preserved within each genre-defying track, making it the stuff of epic journeys. you may start your listening experience in front of your turntable, staring at the record spinning, but you will end up somewhere quite different, squeaky lobster has made sure of that. as man from phone number 770021 would say: >this is $50.000. good luck.<

delivered here is phillip charles >controlled input< ep. a collection of phillips music as orignal as it is danceable. while the tracks contain unifying elements, they each stand very clearly apart in their own sound. as we move towards 2011 reference points of mathew jonson, carl craig and redshape spring to mind, but make no mistake... this release is in a sonic space all its own. a true gem for lovers of forward thinking techno and house.

eleventh and conclusive ten inch of the la series comes from two thirds of the sa-ra creative partners shafiq husayn and om mas keith. working solo on each side shafiq is first with seven minutes of funk split into three parts. >dna splice mix< is an intense mix of hip hop and funk beats, chopped vocals, jazz and soul combining to form an infectious for-the-heads downtown la sound. flipping over om mas goes uptown and gives us a more polished sound with a leftfield r n b - hip hop vocal track >girls a player<. instrumental plus accapella included for potential remixers.

supported by tornado wallace (delusions of grandeur), pete herbert (reverso 68/dance disorder)... when jay shepheard launched retrofit in early 2010, deep house with a splash of disco was on the menu. six releases later and the quality of music hasnt faltered once. jays own work has always been the main focus on all five releases but for retrofit 6, rudys midnight machine, (who is in fact robin lee of faze action) takes to the stage alongside an appearance from shepheard (as ee_ef_ex) on remixing duties. >ecstatic love glow< kicks off the ep, diving head first into the disco and synth heavy realm that we expect from retrofit (and, for that matter, from mr lee), whose house outputs with faze action as far back as 97 speak for themselves. the intro of tip tapping hats and congas leads into a penetrating bass guitar, a riff that goes on to be cleverly mirrored by keyboards and later, by what sounds like a scratchy lakland guitar. wooden hats, sirens and a plethora of cosmic elements boogie their way around until the tracks dominant synth parades in and takes over the arrangement, striking a dramatic and smug pose at the close of each stab. the second track of >east side good living< sticks with its predecessors groove, cosmic sirens, electronic whistles and metallic drum taps yet again highlighting rudys modern disco sound

silicone souls darkroom dubs label has pulled off quite a coup with their latest release. taking a retrospective look through the labels archive, the duo approached some of their favourite producers, asking them to rework and give their own take some of the music from previous releases... and boy are we in for a treat! the coup in question was the securing of the talents of a certain mr robag wruhme. currently enjoying the acclaim generated from his exquisite long player, >thora vukk< (pampa), wruhme has kindly turned his attention to remixing extrawelts >neuland< for darkroom dubs. the lead track from their 2010 >neuland< marked a key moment for the label, as silicone soul celebrated the signing of an act that they had admired for many years. robag provides not one, but two reworks of the stunning original, each as impressive and moving as the other. the second rework sees john selway turning filippo mancinelli & allen mays >the hills< on its head. the deepness of the 2009 original, is still in evidence as the atmospheric sounds sweep within selways wonderfully driving tech reconstruction.

ann aimee goes darker and more minimalistic than before with this debut release by area forty_one. this unknown producer gives us his personal interpretation of modern techno. this double pack contains five solid techno cuts, filled with spacy and robotic sounds, together with one imminent ambient track. discharging clouds gives us tracks, each one containing its unique vibe, and will please anyone with a preference for the dark, sinister techno sound. the mysterious area forty_one is one to keep an eye on

seiji – the much-lauded and respected producer from west london – returns with the penultimate part of his 2010-launched seiji series. having successfully explored a career path thats established him as a founding member of broken beat originators bugz in the attic, a key artist for the seminal jungle/d n b label reinforced, a downbeat solo artist for sonar kollectiv and a producer and co-writer for the brilliant roisin murphy, in 2011 seiji is a man focused squarely on the dancefloor. the seiji series is just one part of that with seiji stripping things right back, identifying each release with a simple number and putting all his energy into creating music that he truly believes in. a merging of sounds and influences that have always been with him, but have never sounded so right – encapsulating everything thats exciting about the underground uk scene at the moment. as with the previous two releases, seiji 4 is a double a-side focusing on the current uk house sound, a bit soulful, a bit funky a bit jacking, with two solid heavy grooves that are going to work on any house dance floor. no other has a really soulful vocal sample, a rolling reese bass riff and percussive uk house beats. easy is more of an infectious skippy house groove with a chunky bass hook and deep techno pads

fachwerk delivers one after another twelve that stands out!. straight no nonsense tracks from mike dehnert who is the talk of the town after his heavy delsin album released earlier this year. clean and powerful produced tracks that each has its own character making this one of the most versatile and intimate releases mike dehnert ever produced. essential techno tool.

southern california meets saturn in the first of a small series of sun ra interpretations. straight out of poobah records in pasadena, ras_g sets the bar high for this with a breathtaking version of the 1971 track >nidhamu< over a year in the making and his longest work to date its suitably fitting counter to sun ras futuristic synth revelations. bespoke cover art for each record of the series comes from stephen serrato.

the fried tofu crew follow up their excellent first course with another tasty selection! on the a-side sweet soulful voices catch you from the first try on. but dont be hasty, or you will burn your tongue. this is hot and far from being a dessert. after the first impression of sweetness, you will feel the spicy taste coming through. we all love that slight burning on the lips, making you really feel the feel. the first cut on the b-side digs even deeper into sweetness. somehow everything seems to be so lovely, each time this one is played out. its clear that even the ruff guys cant resist the taste of honey. real sweet and spicy, thats how its got to be. things are straightened out on the final cut, which finishes off the meal with a raw funk jam. the extended guitar groove gets back to the basics. sometimes few essential things, combined in the right way, can be all you need. a typical mistake when preparing a meal is to add too many different spices.

in denmark, there rages a lively and experimental techno scene - and its not only a recent phenomenon. the best proof are phono and kemi, two danish imports to the berlin record label, highgrade records. the two chaps complement each other in a musically virtuoso fashion: phono, jacob thiessen, spent his childhood playing around with sequencers and drum machines: over the years he has stuck to this passion and as such, has developed a reputation as an experienced house and techno producer. kim kemi, by contrast, has been a dj since the beginning, and since the 90s has been one of the key figures in the copenhagen club scene. together they have not only performed regularly at the biggest events in denmarks capital, but have also ensured through their many releases, ever changing accents and atmospheres on the turntables. this wealth of combined musical experience can be heard instantly on their latest outing for highgrade – >decompose<. the three tracks, >decompose<, >exterminators< & >last night< assemble rhythms that come from punk, elegant voices and dizzying loops a multi-layered sound excursion. the result is a perfectly produced ep, but one that has not been ironed smooth. with the >made in denmark< seal of quality, phono and kemi bring some extra depth to the party attitude

dust science is proud to present the second release from dadavistic orchestra, a collaboration between the black dog and 3 former members of fellow electronic pioneers the psychick warriors of gaia. dadavistic orchestras first release, >dokument .01<, showcased the two groups love for dadaism and all that it inspired. dokument .02 continues with this theme. where the first release was a double a-side of ambient electronic drone, dokument .02 is a six track album of beatless but very high impact electronics. each track weighs in at around 11 minutes of evolving, warm, and affecting analogue deepness. endlessly fascinating and continuously stimulating, these pieces are long, and yet highly economical.

self defence returns in full effect with new yorks one and only dj dukes (of sex trax / power music fame) >summer madness ep<. dj duke had retired from the music front for a while, after he had about 300 records emerged after his >blow your whistle< blew up in 1993 and during the past few years. with releases dating back to 1990, you know the mans got skills aplenty, and they once again get a killer workout on this ep. each of the tracks shows a different side of his music-making and rewards ones time and attention, demonstrating that duke plays in his own league of house music. a bit of curry flavour seeps into >summer blast< by way of a sinuous string melody, adding an exotic tinge to the breeziness that otherwise infuses the cut. a funky, vibes-like motif and analog synth streams bring additional colour to the scene while a crisp, pumping groove locks everything solidly in place

in just a matter of months, life and death has swiftly established itself as purveyors of quality contemporary dance music, made by artists who would undoubtedly make anyone s short list of who i d like to invite to my afterparty . it seems only fitting then that with their newest release they ve recruited the undisputed kings of late night mayhem and madness for a paen tribute to that beautiful party after the party, the continuation of all things good and twisted.. the afterparty itself. not to take the issue of such a joyful celebration lightly, dop has gone on secret missions over the last 6 months, quietly (and often not so quietly) infiltrating afterparties worldwide and secretly extracting pituitary secretions from the rowdiest party goers at each of them. they then took these secretions, burned them in a special voodoo ceremony and immediately went into the studio to create a fitting tribute to the after-hours festivities we all hold so dear. once that was complete, friends were invited and even more deviants came to the party for some dirty late night remix action. clockwork (who s recently released it s you again on hot creations has already been the soundtrack to many an after party) are here, french wolf+lamb collaborator le loup is here, mas collective (who recorded on seminal nyc label strictly rhythm) is here and marius & david are here too.. everybody giving it their own special flavor. what an afterparty indeed.
